Jayden senses poem SURFING

SURFING

On Monday 23rd March the Year 7/8s of Rimu Class went to Sumner Beach for our first William Pike Challenge Award. I found standing up for the first time challenging.

I heard the waves crash as they came out to shore .

I heard the waves tumbling over one another .

I heard the sound of dogs barking .

I heard babies in laughter .

I saw a cargo ship in the thin air .

I smelt the salty water in the air  .

When catching the waves it feels like you're on a full blast roller coaster and then it wears off for a while .

I felt like I was wobbling on jelly when I  stood up on the board .

My muscles relax while the class does a stretch and a practice of how to get up .

‘Wonder’ essay

In the book ‘Wonder’, Palacio uses the first point of view to tell the story. R.J Palacio used first person in the chapter called ‘Lunch’. For example, “I hate the way I eat I know how weird it looks. I had a surgery to fix my cleft palate when I was a baby and in a sick and leek lift surgery when I was 4 but I still have a hole in the roof of my mouth.” The second example I found in the book is, “I know I'm not an ordinary 10-year-old kid. I mean, sure, I do ordinary things. I eat ice cream. I ride my bike. I play ball. I have an Xbox. Stuff like that makes me ordinary. I guess. And I feel ordinary. Inside. But I know ordinary kids don't make other ordinary kids run away screaming in playgrounds. I know ordinary kids don’t get stared at wherever they go.
